Daryl Dike has made quite an impression since signing on loan for promotion-chasing Barnsley in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old has netted eight goals in 15 games, including in their most recent 2-0 win over Middlesbrough on Saturday, propelling the Tykes to an incredible run of 11 wins, two draws and just one loss since Dike’s arrival.
Having had such a dramatic impact for Valerian Ismael’s side, he has drawn the attention of top Premier League clubs including Leeds United, Everton and Chelsea.
Amid this wave of interest for the young talent, parent club Orlando City have slapped a £15m price tag on his permanent signature, effectively pricing out the majority of Championship clubs.
However, with Barnsley sitting comfortably in fifth, five points clear of seventh with just five games to go, their potential return to the Premier League for the first time since 1998 could present Dike with an enticing opportunity to stay in Yorkshire.
The American told CBS Sports: “I try to block it out and focus on what I can do today to better myself tomorrow. In such a short amount of time, my life has changed in ways that I couldn’t even have imagined. If you told me two years ago that I’d be where I am today, I would have laughed at you.”
When the season ends in just under a month’s time, Dike will have plenty of time to consider his options. A return to Major League Soccer to train and play alongside Nani and Alexandre Pato certainly presents its own benefits, but the lure of European topflight football often reigns supreme.
Dike has made a tremendous impact so far, and he will hope to continue his stellar form at strugglers Coventry this Sunday.
