Alen Halilović looks set to stay at Birmingham City despite uncertainty surrounding his future in the second city.
Halilović had a tough start to life at Birmingham. However, since Lee bowyer’s arrival, the playmakers performances hame improved massively and he has now established himself as a key player for Blues.
The Croatian only joined Birmingham earlier in the campaign on a short-term deal that will end this summer. The 24-year-old has shown his worth to Bowyer and is now expected to stay after Bowyer told Birmingham Live he feels he has an important role at the club.
“I like him. I think we can improve him more as well. A proper pre-season under his belt and I think he can become an even better player. From what I understand he is enjoying it. I like him as a player and I will be recommending that we keep him.
“He brings us something different. You need to have those players, when we want to the diamond on the weekend you needed people who are comfortable receiving the ball, want to play forward and get into the right areas,” Bowyer said.
Halilović’s main attribute has been highlighted by his boss, retaining possession – which is something Blues have struggled with this season and it has cost them. This makes him a key asset and Bowyer will be keen to keep hold of him.
But because of his recent performances, other clubs may be interested as he would be available on a free transfer this summer.
After the manager’s comments, Halilović will be excited for the weekend as his team prepare to take on Cardiff City. He will be hoping for as many minutes as possible to prove what he can do before the season comes to a close.
