Andrew Shinnie in action for new club Charlton Athletic

Andrew Shinnie will be a Charlton player after making his loan move permanent from Luton Town. The double promotion winner leaves the Hatters to join the Addicks permanently after having a good spell on loan at the London club.

The 31-year-old was a fan favourite at Luton and earned the moniker ‘Shinniesta’ with his performances in the centre of midfield. He was vital in his first season as he made 34 appearances, scoring three times as they earned promotion to League One.

Shinnnie then played a vital role in helping Town win the League One title in 2018-19. The midfielder scored four goals and provided six assists in 41 appearances, while winning the players’ player of the year award.

The midfielder could only muster 16 starts in the Sky Bet Championship last campaign, helping the Town maintain their hard-earned status, and departs with 106 appearances and ten goals to his name.

The move ends Shinnie’s three years association with Luton Town. The midfielder joined the club first as a loanee in 2017. He signed permanently after the promotion 2018 and being a key figure in the team that made it back-to-back promotions.

Charlton confirmed the deal is planned to allow the club the flexibility to meet EFL rules that state a club may only name five loan players in a matchday squad.

Charlton manager Lee Bowyer was full of praise for the professionalism of Luton Town as well as the player. The manager stated on the club website that Charlton would like to thank the Luton hierarchy to get the deal done without any hiccups and his side can build up for the final 18 games with much more flexibility in the squad.

Shinnie has made 16 appearances for the Addicks so far this season and in the process has scored two goals.
