Norwich City are interested in signing Greek striker Giorgos Giakoumakis, according to TEAMtalk.
Giakoumakis (26) plays his club football for Dutch side VVV Venlo and is the top scorer in Eredivisie this season with a staggering 27 goals in 29 appearances.
The 6ft 1in striker has been capped by the Greek national side 6 times, scoring 1 goal.
Prior to his arrival in Holland, Giakoumakis had a relatively underwhelming goalscoring record. In fact, the maximum number of goals he had managed in a single season was 12. The season prior to his at VVV Venlo, he managed just 3 in 28 appearances.
Venlo signed the player for just £180,000; latest estimations put his current market value at £2.25m.
There’s heavy interest from bigger clubs in Holland. Brighton and Southampton are also believed to be monitoring the player’s progress.
How much VVV Venlo will be looking for in terms of transfer fee in not yet known. He is contracted until June 2022, but Venlo hold an option for a further year.
Norwich City navigated the Premier League on an incredibly tight budget last season, as the owners looked to shore up the club’s finances. However, it is believed Farke will be given more money this time out.
Despite his patchy goalscoring record, Giakoumakis is a Greek international and top scorer in the Eredivisie. For a club like Norwich, who operate on a limited budget, he could prove to be an astute signing.
